Paradigm change for the auto industry. On 27 May 2010, the European Commission issued the new automobile block exemption regulation with accompanying guidelines. The new regulation should strengthen competition on the secondary markets for repair and maintenance services and thereby benefit users by lowering repair costs. The trade in new automobiles, where the European Commission has created intense competition between the various producers, will no longer be covered by this new regulation, but rather, from 1 June 2013, will fall under the “general” block exemption for vertical agreements.
