Lunch with Schoenherr | Practitioners guide and workshop on merger control in the Western Balkans

We are pleased to invite you to a presentation and interactive discussion of key considerations of relevance for legal practitioners faced with multijurisdictional merger control proceedings in the countries of the Western Balkans (Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania and Kosovo).

The competition authorities of the region are seeing an exponential growth of submitted merger control filings, as more and more companies are choosing, or are obliged to notify their transactions in these countries.

At the same time, there is an increased level of scrutiny by the authorities, in terms of formalities, quantity and quality of information required from the parties. There is also increased divergence in the procedural and timing issues, leading to an even stronger need to pre-plan multiple aspects of each transaction and its approvals.

The event will aim to present these key issues for legal practitioners, as well foster an open and pragmatic discussion. The topics covered will include:

• an overview of the respective merger control regimes and competition authorities, as well of their recent activities,
• the particularities of assessing notification requirements in the respective countries, as well associated risks of non-compliance,
• best practices in providing necessary data and formalities in each country, and interaction with merger control processes in other jurisdictions,
• timing considerations, such as formal and practical filing and review deadlines and their implications on transaction planning, as well as best practices for achieving timely and streamlined clearances.
