Austria: Schoenherr advises BASF on transaction with Novartis/Sandoz at major industrial site in Kundl, Tyrol

The agreement with Sandoz/Novartis enables BASF to expand its production footprint for detergent enzymes and further enhance its product portfolio and leading market position in the Home Care and Industrial & Institutional (I&I) Cleaning Solutions Industry. The start of BASF production is planned for 2024.

BASF, headquartered in Ludwigshafen, Germany, is a listed chemical company. BASF operates over 390 production sites in more than 80 countries. In 2020, it generated sales of EUR 59bln and is the world's largest chemical company by sales.

Novartis AG is a biotechnology and pharmaceutical company based in Basel. It is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, with EUR 48.7bln in sales in 2020. Sandoz is a subsidiary of the Novartis Group and operates the generics business.

The Schoenherr team was led by Bernd Rajal (partner, regulatory) and consisted of Nina Zafoschnig (associate, regulatory); Maximilian Lang (partner, corporate & commercial contracts); Clemens Rainer (counsel, real estate); Teresa Waidmann (counsel, labour & employment); and Wolfgang Rapberger (associate, real estate).
