Schoenherr advised Raiffeisen Bank International AG and UniCredit Bulbank AD on the project financing for Verila Solar Park 2, owned and developed by 360 Energy, to develop, construct and operate a new battery energy storage system (BESS) in Bulgaria with a capacity of about 360 MWh, in Dupnitsa, Kyustendil District, Bulgaria. The BESS will operate alongside Bulgaria's largest solar power plant (124 MW PV), and will support grid flexibility, as well as increased renewables integration.
The financing was provided through a senior, multi-facility project finance package by UniCredit Bulbank and Raiffeisen Bank International, with UniCredit Bulbank acting as agent, security agent and account bank.
Schoenherr advised the lenders on all English and Bulgarian law aspects of the transaction, including the finance documentation, security package and direct agreements.
Attila K Csongrady, Partner and Head of Schoenherr's English Law CEE Debt Finance practice, commented: "The Verila BESS project underlines how utility-scale battery storage tied to renewables is gaining full bankability in CEE. This transaction is about practical delivery of energy transition infrastructure at scale. Congratulations to all the parties."
The Schoenherr team advising RBI and UniCredit was led by Attila K Csongrady (Partner) and Peter Redo (Counsel) on English law matters, and Tsvetan Krumov (Partner), Kristina Lyubenova (Senior Attorney at Law) and Ana Komsalova (Associate) on Bulgarian law matters.
